The governor of Kano state His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf was pleased to receive the country leadership of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), led by its Country Director, Uche Amaonwu, and Deputy Country Director, Immunisation Programs.
The objective of the visit was for the foundation to learn more about the successes and challenges in Kano State, being one of their priority states in implementing healthcare interventions, and how the foundation can better support the state government’s efforts in stopping the transmission of cVPV2 by ensuring that outbreak response campaigns are qualitative, as well as improving the immunisation coverage.
The governor was particularly happy with the Country Director’s commendation for our timely and consistent payment into the MoU basket among the Kano State Government, Dangote Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and for maintaining a separate commitment to full payment of the routine immunisation program, as agreed since 2017.
The governor also expressed his appreciation for the visit and continued support of the foundation in improving the healthcare delivery system in our state, as I reiterated our commitment to continue to collaborate with all development partners in line with our healthcare agenda for the state.
